HP has remained dedicated to reducing its environmental impact in recent years; in an article FMS Blog published in 2016 we discussed how HP had committed to trying to achieve zero deforestation by 2020. As well as this, they pledged to try and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 25 per cent by 2020.
The company already has a strong record in this area as in 2015 they announced that they had achieved a 29 per cent reduction in both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions when compared to their 2010 levels. This meant that they had exceeded their 20 per cent by 2020 goal in only 2 years, as it had originally been set in 2013.
HP To Further Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
In a new announcement, HP Inc has declared a new target that will aim to see them reduce their greenhouse gas emissions from global operations by 25 per cent by 2025 when compared to 2015. This target has been made to try to reduce their carbon footprint in an effort to help keep the global warming levels below 2⁰ Celsius according to climate science.
Along with this, HP has also renewed its commitment to World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Climate Savers Program. This global programme aims to engage both business and industry on energy and climate by having member companies commit to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions as well as pledging to try and influence market or policy developments.
HP Inc originally became involved with the WWF’s Climate Savers in 2008 when the legacy company Hewlett-Packard Company joined. In 2015 the Hewlett-Packard Company split into HP Inc and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. The recent announcement from HP Inc is the start of their association with Climate Savers as a post-separation company.
“Aligning our operation’s carbon-reduction targets with climate science is necessary not only for the health of our planet, but also to the future of our business,” said Jon Flaxman, Chief Operating Officer, HP. “By taking climate action today and working with partners like WWF, we are helping minimize operational risks associated with a changing climate, and building a more resilient company that’s ready to serve our customers indefinitely in a low-carbon economy.”
